Mapping Memoryscapes New Research Perspectives

How does the past take shape in the spaces we inhabit, imagine, and create? Mapping Memoryscapes: New Research Perspectives explores the dynamic relationship between memory and place across material, social, and cultural landscapes. Bringing together interdisciplinary research by emerging scholars from a range of academic backgrounds, the volume examines how memories are produced, contested, transformed, and inscribed in urban spaces, political discourse, social practices, oral-history accounts, art, theatre, and literature. From postwar Bosnia and Nuremberg to Kyiv, London, and beyond, these studies offer fresh perspectives on the ways societies negotiate the past in the present – and on the spaces through which remembrance acquires meaning.
